I don’t know how else to describe my stay at Life House other than magical.
The shingle-clad exterior is like all other houses surrounding Life House Nantucket. Once you enter through the front door, though, you’re transported to a worldly coastal cottage that is unlike anything else on this tiny New England island. With palm trees, unique knick-knacks, and rattan furniture everywhere you turn, you’ll feel like you’ve whisked away to some remote tropical locale.
For the tail end of my most recent trip to Nantucket, I stayed at the new Faraway hotel located in the middle of downtown on Centre Street.
Tucked behind a row of inconspicuous green shrubs lies the Faraway property. Once you round the corner of the entrance, you’ll immediately step into the lively courtyard with ample seating and plants as far as the eye can see. Designed by the team behind Life House, the Faraway doesn’t skimp on the aesthetically pleasing details. From the courtyard to the lobby floor (hello, checkerboard pattern 😍), the property is pure eye candy.
Newport is quickly becoming one of my favorite places in New England. It’s a quick trip from Boston, there’s so much to do year-round, and the food scene isn’t too bad either. Even though Newport is small in size, finding a larger hotel that’s close to Thames Street is key. I love a small bed and breakfast, but sometimes you want the amenities of a resort. Luckily, Gurney’s Newport Resort & Marina made its debut on Goat Island in 2017 and has been a welcome addition to the Newport hotel scene.
