Where to stay: The Vedema in Santorini, Greece

For the tail end of my trip on Santorini, I stayed at the Vedema hotel, a property by my favorite, the Luxury Collection. Located in the medieval village of Megalohori, the Vedema is a sprawling resort that maintains the charm of the village and the classic Cycladic style architecture.

Where do I start with The Vedema? First of all, it is one of the most beautiful resorts I’ve ever had the privilege of staying at. Not only am I smitten with the polka dot walls, but there is a 400-year old wine cellar at the hotel – and if you know anything about me, you know wine is the key to my heart.

The pool is just beyond the entrance and reception. It’s a remarkable space that’s not only where you swim, but also where you dine. The Pergola pool restaurant is where breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks are served. This area is really the heart of the property.

From the straw umbrellas to the open air bar, the space is inviting, relaxing, and where you want to spend all of your time while at the hotel.

While I admittingly have a thing for the Vedema’s exterior walls, I absolutely adore the interiors as well. The big furnishings, clean lines, and neutral colors are the epitome of chic. I took so many pictures of the suite so that I could recreate the whole vibe at home.

Just beyond the amazing pool, chic rooms, and adorable polka dot walls lays the fabulous wine cellar and restaurant, Alati.

Alati’s space is so so special. Housed in the 400-year old wine cave, the restaurant is magical. It’s very Game of Thrones and maintains the medieval feel of the village. The hotel was nice enough to host a wine tasting for me and my friends in Alati.

The tasting included seven Greek wines and a cheese plate. All of the wines were excellent. Greek wine is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Specifically, the Assyrtiko grape. It is phenomenal.

If you haven’t noticed, a local kept popping up in random spots during my visit to Vedema. Suzy. The cat. She’s quite the ham, and not very subtle when she wants something. She was at breakfast and then decided to join us for our wine tasting. She’s a sweetie and is in good hands at the Vedema.

When not drooling over everything at the Vedema, I was exploring the town of Megalohori. Beautiful, the town is full of little shops, small restaurants, and intricate architecture. There’s also a wonderful winery tucked in the center of Megalohori. Gavalas makes some of my favorite wine – ever. I wish I could run out to store and buy a case.

My stay at the Vedema was one of my favorite hotel stays. My room, the property, and the surrounding village were so charming and wonderful that I find myself reminiscing of my visit very often. So often that I’m already scheming my next visit.
