It had been quite some time since my last visit to Newport, Rhode Island so when Hotel Viking reached out to me, I jumped at the chance. Recently named the top hotel of 2018 by U.S. News & World Report, Hotel Viking offers 208 rooms and 10 suites, boasts an incredible location and is one of the Historic Hotels of America.
Moreover, the Hotel Viking is currently offering a winter festival experience through the end of February with ice bars and fire pits. Winterfest? Consider me sold.

I’m starving by the time we arrive, so we head over to One Bellevue for lunch right away. We order the calamari, shrimp, lobster roll and turkey club. The everything was incredibly delicious, but the calamari was the standout for me – lightly breaded and perfectly cooked.

After we checked in, we head to our suite. Our room had a king size bed and a great sitting area where we can relax in between meals and Winterfest.

Once we get our bearings in our suite, i.e. sit on the couch for a minute or two, we head down to the courtyard to enjoy Winterfest. It was a chilly night so cozying up to the firepit with a hot toddy was the perfect antidote to the cold. (A little corn hole helped a bit too!)

Winterfest ends at 8 p.m. so once the festivities die down, we grab a quick bite at a local restaurant in Newport called Fluke. It’s a great little wine bar with an excellent menu. After a nightcap at the Clarke Cook House, we head back to the Hotel Viking for a cozy night’s sleep.

We wake up refreshed and ready for some breakfast in One Bellevue. The coffee and crab benedict hit the spot. I’m ready to explore Newport.
